Yup you are spot on Goose…. And when those people leave in the case of my department… the void is filled with contractors… I’m pretty happy with what I got… I’m On Call 365/24/7 so it makes a big difference to my wage… in our area they call On Call the Golden Handcuff… and that’s what it is… without it I’d be off like a shot… as would everyone in my work area

the world doesnt owe you a gauranteed pay rise every year. if you dont like it the go work in the private sector.
i only got 1.5% this year so i might well look around for a new opportunity.

Just had a look at my last 6 years...
2011- Freeze (nil)
2012 - Freeze (nil)
2013 - 0.89%
2014 - 0.87%
2015 - 0.86%
2016 - 0.84%
So that's 3.46% over the last 6 years... that's on top of massively increased pension contributions (which everyone who is a public servant agreed had to go up) so basically we have been having an annual pay deduction year in year out... it's a sensitive subject and I can only look at our own personal situation of where I work.... experienced staff who were business critical have fucked off... mainly because of pay but also for conditions... they have been replaced in the norm by shit cunt contractors (on £500/£600 per day+) that cost You and me ... the tax payers... 3 to 4 times the amount of the previous civil servant.... I reckon our floor of say 100 odd people.. that 50% are contractors now... filling in gaps of ex IT Civil Servants who basically bit the bullet as they were fucked off with 0.8% pay rises....

Its a pay rise though isnt it? Its insulting to suggest 1% isnt good enough when some in the private sector would love a 1% rise!

What's the matter with some people on here? If one group of workers get a measly pay rise, the bosses can get away with giving us all the same. But if one group manages to get a good pay rise, then we can all benefit too. It's just common sense.

Halve the pay of primary school, history and geography teachers and pay it to maths and science.
Primary school recruitment still runs at about 30 applications for a job, if not more in some areas, most of them are useless women who wouldn't be able to do any equivalent job.
Same goes for nurses and social workers.

Simple solution
Scrap ridiculously long summer holidays
Let school finish at 530pm so no homework
Reduce parents childcare costs and also allow them to work longer and pay more tax
Use increase in tax from working parents to pay teachers salary increases
Weed out the teachers that are only innit for the free holiday and ability to spread their socialist agenda to impressionable minds
Recruit teachers from the professional sectors that have had experience in the workplace so can have an appreciation of the world outside education
Get kids brighter quicker and then more time for the arts etc so a broader education
Reduce degrees to 2yrs max including 6months in the workplace to teach Employability skills and galvanise their learning people don't have to study for hours researching in the library these days so 3 or 4 yrs is pointless.
Make degrees hard for kids to get accepted onto so only the most talented go and therefore won't struggle to find employment afterwards.
Reduce student fees so they are realistic and not crippling to the student or to the taxpayer
Remove all politically biased and religious biased teachings from schools amd unis and impose bans on teachers pushing their own agenda outside of the curriculum.

Get rid of public sector pensions so they're are in line with the private sector that pay them then they can get a pay rise. Job done

norman, let's just hope that you're not unlucky enough to be in an accident like I saw on the M25 yesterday watching firemen battle to cut a badly injured woman from her car, not sure if she made it or not but I'm sure those feckless nurses did their best for her.

8. 600 MP's should be reduced to 60 & the House of Lords to a similar number & housed in an office block in Wigan.
